NODS
held their annual banquet/meeting on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 6:00 pm at Punderson Manor
Attendance: 52 members
with all officers present
The winter banquet was held at Punderson Manor with a Disney theme. Members entered
the festively decorated Scenic Room by walking through a colorful arch of balloons and were greeted by Mickey Mouse (Doug
Bowen) and Cruela DeVil (Laura Frazier). Also on hand were the Queen of Hearts (Jan Teague), Cinderella (Colleen Krause),
Mulan (Patti Gambino) and a friendly pirate (Curt Hanson). NODS members were given a folder, adorned with a Disney character,
compliments of the artistic talents of Laura Frazier that contained a list of upcoming events, a list of officers, the NODS
by-laws, financial information, and roster of NODS members. Raffle tickets were sold (6 for $5) for a drawing of prizes.
Guests enjoyed each other's company and feasted on a delicious dinner.

After dinner, NODS members played
a trivia quiz game in teams based on the color of their quiz. Prior to the banquet, NODS members were asked to complete
the trivia quiz that included questions to learn more about each other. The Red team won the quiz.
Doug
Bowen, President, called the meeting to order after dinner.
He thanked donors for supplying prizes and the planning/decorating
committee for their contributions to the event. Doug also extended a warm welcome to our guests from Kent State.
Treasurer's
Report
Arlene Richardson reported that we have $8,381.40 as of December 31, 2010, which includes a CD. She indicated
that our expenses exceeded our income, but we still ended the year with money in the bank. Significant expenses included:
- $1,000 Kent State Scholarship
- $1,000 donation to Region 2 -- Arlene indicated that Region 2 sent a thank
you note for the donation and said NODS had set a new standard for donations!
- Food, Rebates and 11 people attended
regional meetings.
Kent State
Jan Teague introduced the guests from Kent State University.
Matthew Butts, Director of Advancement, thanked NODS for the scholarship indicating that it is was a fifth
of their tuition; KSU has been able to keep tuition under $3,000/semester. He also indicated that the agriculture/green
industry is the largest industry in the state. Stan Jones, Program Director, thanked NODS for their commitment to their program,
re-iterated the importance of the scholarship, and gave an update on the previous two students. He also indicated that the
program has experienced tremendous growth, from 5 to 90 students.
Julie Kline is the current recipient
of the NODS scholarship at KSU and is an accomplished student. Julie gave a heartfelt thank you to NODS for their generosity
and helping her with her degree. She is happiest when she is outside in the garden and even has her children helping
out. Julie's ultimate goal is to own her own business.
Stan Jones, Program Director, indicated that
the daylilies donated by NODS are on display at KSU and promotes daylilies for landscapes and is maintained by their students.
Jan Teague indicated that the garden is three years old and she would like some members to visit the garden to see how the
plants, which were donated, are maturing and bring back some photos.
Doug reiterated all the rebate programs
and events for 2011 as discussed and voted on during the November, 2010 meeting.

asked if any members had additional news. There was no additional news to discuss. The meeting was adjourned and
the raffle began.
