May Gathering
NODS next scheduled event will be taking place on Sunday, May 3rd at Penitentiary Glen Nature
Center. The meeting will consist of two great presentations for one low price....oops, it's free! Our special
guest speaker will be Ralph Haehn.
The afternoon will begin at 12:30 with lunch provided by NODS. Back
by popular demand, we will have fried chicken, cole slaw, mac n'cheese. Any members that would like to volunteer
an appetizer or dessert should contact Doug at digdug12084@aol.com to avoid
duplications.
Promptly at 1:00 we will start the program. Ralph's first presentation is titled
"Hybridizing How-To". He will be sharing his years of experience in hybridizing, giving many tips and answering
all your questions. The second presentation will be "Tips on Entering a Scape Show". This will prepare
each and every member on what to look for and how to prepare for entering the Scape Show scheduled for July 26th.
A short meeting will follow Ralph's presentations. Most discussions will center around the summer
sale and scape event.
Equpment Purchases NODS is in the process of purchasing a Thermal Label Printer and a Power Point Projector.
At the winter banquet it was voted to spend up to $1,500 on a thermal label printer and then in 2010 plan on purchasing a
power point projector. With the guidance and research completed by Chris Szymanski, the price for purchasing both pieces
of equipment came to under $1,500. By completing an email vote, it was decided to purchase both pieces of equipment
at this time. Thanks Chris for your help on getting this taken care of!
Popularity Poll Results Congratulations to Curt Hanson for obtaining two top vote winners in this years AHS popularity
poll! Nationally his PRIMAL SCREAM was voted number one while his BELA LUGOSI rounded up at number thirteen. Curt's
SWALLOW TAIL KITE is in the running for this years Stout Silver Medal. Good luck to him. The full results of the
popularity poll can be found in the latest Daylily Journal or on the AHS website.

Annual Daylily Sale The deadline for notify the Sale Committee of donations is 5-16-09. If you give us the names of the plants
you intend to donate the committee will create the display card and labels and take care of pricing the plant. Members
who make donations by this date will receive credit towards a donation certificate to use at the sale.
For
donations made after 5-16-09 you will need to create a display card and label and price your plant. Bring the plants
to the Sale Set up on Friday or first thing Saturday morning. Put your display card on the open display board and place
your plants on the table in alphabetical order.
A reminder: working for the sale will earn you your rebate
to purchase more great plants in Region 2.
