NODS Minutes of the Meeting Date: September
16, 2007
Location: Penitentiary Glen Members Present: 22 members (including all four elected
members)
The meeting started off with a recap of the years events, most of which was discussing
the success of the summer sale. This then went into discussions on how to make next year's sale EVEN more successful.
Rae and Del will head up the sale again next year and will be looking for volunteers that will commit to tasks needed for
the event. A proposal was presented for a Member Pre-Sale and sale credit for plant donations. It is proposed
that Members receive a credit toward plant sale purchases for their donations. The maximum credit would be $50 per member;
Donations will be double fans; The amount of the credit will be based upon the price of the cultivar listed in the 2008 Eureka,
less 20%. Details will be determined at our next meeting.
Sunshine Committee
It was suggested that the Sunshine Committee needs to be more structured and defined.
A form is needed and will be created that will be placed on our web site. The form will be directed to the Secretary
by email. It will include the purpose of the committee and the procedure involved. Involvement includes: get well
cards and flowers, welcome new members with card and daylily gift, need help in yard requests, and any other recognition.
Name Tags
It was brought up again this year that name tags
should be supplied at every meeting. The Vice President stated that samples and costs would be brought to the Winter Banquet
for discussion and vote.
Scholarships
It
was brought up again this year the NODS should look into giving scholarships to local college students. Various members
volunteered to accumulate information for the Winter Banquet meeting. Information included: research other garden club procedures,
create an application with the criteria for the scholarship, and create a list of local agencies that the applications could
be sent. All information gathered should be brought to the Winter Banquet.
October Meeting Suggestions
A request was made for giving a bulb presentation
from a local garden shop. It was left that if a place could be found a meeting would be arranged. Anyone with
a lead should contact the President.
Summer
Bus Tours
Jan has volunteered to do research in the cost involved with a three day garden tour of southern Ohio
and Kentucky versus going to the Regional Meeting in Madison, Wisconsin. Funds for this event will be decided upon at
the Winter Banquet.
Rebates
Everyone
agreed that the rebate program worked well last year and that it should be offered again this year. It was suggested
that it should be opened up to other commercial establishments outside of Region 2. Anyone wanting to make a proposed
change was requested to have it ready for the Winter Banquet.
Winter Banquet
Everyone agreed that the banquet should be held at Punderson again. It was proposed
with no objections that NODS members would have a dinner completely paid, guests costing $20 (the theme for this event will
be A NIGHT AT THE OSCARS). With Halloween season close at hand, now would be the best time to start planning ahead.
There will be Daylily Oscars awarded to the best celebrities present!
Garden Sponsor
It was suggested that NODS sponsor a garden. We would create a
garden bed and maintain it. A monument with our name on it would be included. After discussing the need for it
to be close to the membership in a high traffic area, Penitentiary Glen and Geauga Hospital seem like the best options to
look at.
Nominations
The membership
was asked for any nominations or interested parties in taking an officer position. Ralph had made a request that he
would like to step down if someone was willing to step up. Jan volunteered. The motion was made and seconded. There were no
additional volunteers or nominations made. All existing officers agreed to another term.
