NODS Meeting Minutes 1-19-08
NODS Minutes of the Meeting Date: January
19,2008 Location: Punderson Manor "A Night At
The Oscars" was the theme of this year's winter banquet held at the Punderson State
Park Manor. The red carpet was rolled out and visions of Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin were seen. The room
was splashed in colors of gold and black from the table settings to the balloon centerpieces. Most of the members that
chose to dress for the occasion's theme came as daylilies, well sort of. The award winning daylilies included:
Crazy Ivan (Grace & Smith, 05), Legendary Stardust Cowboy (Hanson, 01), Autumn Reflections (Brooker, 08), Hollywood Dragon
Lady (Stretz, 87) and Silver Veil (Munson, 77).
Dinner was a grand affair. The main courses included prime
rib, rack of lamb, and forest chicken. Side dishes included green beans, homemade potatoes, salad, and fresh baked rolls.
Dessert included your choices of carrot cake, apple raspberry pie, oreo cheese cake, chocolate cake, and pecan pie.
Yes, a fulfilling meal!
A short business meeting was held after dinner. Renewed this year were the discounts
to the Region 2 Winter Symposium in Cleveland and the 50% rebate program for purchasing daylilies in Region 2. Jan Teague
discussed details of this year's road trip to southern Ohio and northern Kentucky. This promises to be three days
of viewing the latest in daylily hybridizing and daylily shopping. Doug Bowen asked for volunteers to work our booth
at Sunnybrook Farms open house and the Akron Garden Club speaking engagement. Rae Dickens discussed this summers plant
sale and some of the changes to be implemented. Jan Teague mentioned the scholarship program and the progress made so
far in implementing this program.
After the business meeting, the winners of the year's silent auction were
awarded their prizes. High end daylilies and gift certificates donated by NODS members and hybridizers Gerda Brooker,
Roy Woodhall, Curt Hanson, and Ralph Haehn were the hot ticket items. Other hot items included daylily donations and
gift certificates for Region 2 hybridizers Joe Thomas Polston and Dan Bachman. To end the evening there was the raffle
which included a variety of daylilies and gift certificates, gift baskets, etc...donated from NODS members and local vendors.
These two events raised close to $1,300. Thanks to all that donated!!
